State and local officials, including DNR Secretary Josh Kurtz, held a community meeting in September 2025 to discuss the state's plan to acquire land for a new Wetipquin Creek State Park in Wicomico County. This meeting was the first public opportunity for many residents to learn about the project, leading to a Question and Answer session. Residents voiced significant concerns about the lack of transparency in the process, as well as the potential impact of the proposed "passive recreation" park on traffic, trespassing, hunting, and the safety of adjacent properties.
