The County Executive's DERELICTION OF DUTY is revealed for all to see on this week's OPEN AGENDA (S2 E26). The Executive recently declared a crisis at the Newland Park Landfill because Cell #7 (currently being designed) may not be constructed before existing Cell #8 is filled. Although the Executive publicly promised to participate in a mid-July work session with the County Council to seek solutions, neither she nor her top decision makers bothered to show up. You'll also discover how the Executive failed to implement a plan to immediately begin design of Cell #7 that was put into place by her predecessor just two months before she took office in December 2022. As such, Cell #7 is at least 18 months behind schedule, hence the current crisis. She blames the problem on trash being brought in from outside the county, but for 2-1/2 years took no action to stop it. Bottom line: the Executive's failure to act is the cause of the current crisis, and she was AWOL when it came time to be part of the solution.
