S2 E41 – SPECIAL EDITION: EXECUTIVE SIGNS ICE MOU WITH SHERIFF
The County Executive dropped a bombshell announcement of her intention to enter into a MOU with the Sheriff's Dept. that will authorize an agreement with ICE to enforce Federal immigration law. Remarkably, the County Council was locked-out of this decision despite its far-reaching implications. You'll hear citizen comments from this past week's Council meeting wherein concerns and differing perspectives were expressed. Who will pay for training, administration and overtime, etc.? Will enforcement of Federal laws diminish the ability of the already overburdened Sheriff's Dept. to perform its routine duties? Perhaps most importantly, why is the County Executive bypassing the Legislative Branch of YOUR county government, and is she unilaterally exercising powers not granted to the Executive under the County Charter?
