On the Friday evening edition of OPEN AGENDA (8/8/25--S2 E32) we discuss the “Maryland Coordinated Permit Review Process” whereby the State of Maryland will directly fund developers for what it considers to be “high priority projects,” thus bypassing local control. Does Annapolis know what's best for us or should we be determining our own destiny? Also, significant legislation was approved at this past week's County Council meeting. The Council's emergency legislation addressing the landfill “crisis” was passed unanimously, which codifies the days/hours of landfill operation, prohibits out-of-county trash, and imposes severe financial penalties for non-compliance. The County Executive has purportedly signed this legislation, which, among other things, prevents the implementation of her absurd plan to phase-in closure of the landfill to commercial haulers. Additionally, the Council overrode the Executive's veto of legislation requiring all county-owned vehicles to display permanently affixed decals depicting the county seal so that they can be readily identified. This legislation will help to prevent unauthorized personal use of county-owned vehicles, and was necessary because it has been well-documented that the Executive used her unmarked vehicle for campaigning (which is prohibited by law) and other personal uses. Why should the general public obey the rules when the Executive frequently ignores them? We'll also inform you about next week's public meeting with State Delegate Chris Adams at the Westside Community Center, at which the prospective Wetipquin State Park will be discussed. There's a great deal of objection to the establishment of this park, which is being pushed through without the consent of affected residents. Although the County Executive has denied any involvement, all of the facts have not yet been revealed. Finally we'll bring you up to date on Salisbury Mayor Randy Taylor's traffic incident with a pedestrian last week, in which there were no injuries. The incident is presently under investigation by law enforcement and the results should soon be released. Meanwhile, anonymous social media “keyboard warriors” who oppose Mayor Taylor are using this incident to score cheap political points even though it has nothing to do with politics. Tune in and be informed.
