The County Executive strikes again placing taxpayers and Constitutional rights at risk. On this episode of OPEN AGENDA (S2 E47) we inform you about a distasteful meme shared on social media by a public school teacher in regard to the Charlie Kirk assassination, to which the Executive reacted by demanding his termination. By doing so, the Executive, who has no authority over the Board of Education, interfered with the protocols of addressing a personnel issue, thus throwing a wrench in the wheels of due process to which all citizens are entitled. The Executive's impulsive and ill-advised public statement may very well result in a 1st Amendment lawsuit against the County. There she goes again...

In other news, County Councilman James Winn proselytized extensively about his religious faith during this week's Council meeting, culminating with a statement that he'll pray for non-Christians and that his brand of religion is the only way. People in the gallery were squirming uncomfortably in their seats during his sermon and several left the room. Unfortunately for Councilman Winn, the Supreme Court and lower courts have ruled many times that such official statements violate the establishment clause of the 1st Amendment. Consequently, several citizens are considering filing lawsuits against the County. Do you think that evangelizing during government meetings is appropriate, or is it exclusionary to those who hold different religious beliefs?

We also address discussions held during the Council meeting regarding chickens being housed in residential neighborhoods. We examine possible solutions that will reduce the nuisance free range chickens can cause in residential neighborhoods while preserving the chicken industry—the backbone of our local economy.

Two more episodes of OPEN AGENDA (Episodes 48 & 49) will be released on Saturday and Monday, so please tune in and be informed.
