The president of the Wicomico NAACP, Monica Brooks, joins us in the studio to discuss the county's impending 287(g) agreement with ICE. We'll show you video of Sheriff Mike Lewis' public statements about 287(g) made at a recent Compensation Commission hearing. The NAACP's perspective on this divisive issue is very different from the position of the Sheriff and County Executive, so you'll have opportunity to hear both points of view. Per the county Charter, it appears that the final decision is the Executive's alone. However, the Executive is pressuring the County Council to take a vote, which is ironic considering the many occasions on which she has excluded the Council from decisions that lawfully requires their involvement. Does she simply want to share the blame on this contentious issue? We also discuss the Executive's conspicuous absence from last week's public meeting with the MD Dept. of Transportation laying out the State's transportation-related imperatives for the County. Although this critical meeting was scheduled 3 months ago, the Executive instead held a fund raiser for her reelection that evening. Once again, the Executive's personal agenda and political ambitions have superseded the needs of County residents. Is she working for herself or is she working for YOU?
