On the Monday, January 19 edition of OPEN AGENDA (S3 E5) we discuss why the new Salisbury city council president, Angela Blake and her sidekick, Michele Gregory, are pushing to impose “ranked choice voting” in city elections when voters have shown absolutely no interest in such a change. What voters are actually demanding is a more democratic process to fill council vacancies when they occur. So why the push? The only plausible answer is that they believe ranked choice voting will work to their political advantage. Additionally, we show you video of council president Angela Blake trying to suppress a citizen's free speech during public comments at last week's council meeting. During this meeting she also advised that police officers will be present at all future meetings. Although security is important, is her real motivation to intimidate citizens from speaking their minds? We also address councilwoman Michele Gregory's obscene social media rants using offensive language unsuitable for young ears. Regardless of whether or not you agree with her on the subject matter, shouldn't elected officials conduct themselves with dignity, respectability and common decency? How can we expect the general population to be civil when our so-called “leaders” are not? Isn't it time to raise our standards as to who represents us in government? Tune in and be informed.
