We discuss the FY 2025 fiscal audit of Wicomico County released last week by the county's auditing firm, PKS & Co., PA. In sum, the county's finances are in pretty good shape. Property and income tax revenues have continued the upward trend that began in 2019 and returns on investments have increased as well. Revenues have exceeded projections and were more than sufficient to meet budgetary obligations. But now we must question just how judiciously the revenue “windfalls” are being applied to protect taxpayer interests. Considering the state of the county's finances, there is certainly no justification for busting the property tax revenue cap for which the Executive advocated last year.
We won't overwhelm you with details on the budget, but this episode provides a pretty good primer. It's your money and ultimately only taxpayers can ensure that the county government is being fiscally responsible. Tune in and be informed.
